Community Healthcare System rebranding to Powers Health

Munster, Ind.-based Community Healthcare System is changing its name to Powers Health effective July 1.

The new name is a nod to Donald Powers, who donated 5 acres and funding to develop the health system's flagship Munster-based Community Hospital. Mr. Powers was also director and president of Community Foundation, which became Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana in 2001 and is the parent company of Community Healthcare System, according to a Feb. 28 health system news release shared with Becker's.

Powers Health will continue to ensure physicians offer specialty and advanced care access in Northwest Indiana, including cancer, heart, neuroscience, orthopedics, rehabilitation and stroke services, the release said.

The health system's Community Hospital, East Chicago, Ind.-based St. Catherine Hospital and Hobart, Ind.-based St. Mary Medical Center will maintain their names amid the rebranding.

Crown Point, Ind.-based Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center will become Powers Health Rehabilitation Center and Community Care Network will change to Powers Health Medical Group. All other location-based or hospital-based health centers will change their name to Powers Health Outpatient Center.
