Oakland, Calif.-based Highland Hospital rebranded as The Wilma Chan Highland Hospital Campus during a Dec. 15 rededication ceremony at the hospital campus.
In March, the board voted unanimously to rename the hospital after the former Alameda County supervisor, who was struck and killed by a vehicle in November 2021. The rebranding ceremony made the change official, according to a Dec. 16 news release from Alameda Health System, which operates the hospital.
Ms. Chan was an advocate for the hospital's $671 million renovation project. During her two tenures on the county board of supervisors, she chaired the board's health committee, the release said.
"Supervisor Chan believed that everyone should have access to high-quality healthcare. She was a driving force behind health and safety-net programs that expanded access to care and a champion of Alameda Health System's mission to serve all in our community," health system CEO James Jackson said in the release.
