BJC HealthCare, St. Luke's to retain brand identities amid merger

St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare and Kansas City, Mo.-based St. Luke's Health System said they will keep their individual brands as they form an integrated academic health system.

On May 31, both of the health systems signed a non-binding letter of intent to form an integrated academic health system, with the deal expected to close by the end of 2023, pending regulatory review, according to a press release from BJC.

Despite the proposal, the health systems said they would retain their brands while operating from dual headquarters and serving distinct markets.

Under the agreement, BJC would continue serving Eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois out of St. Louis, while St. Luke's would continue serving Western Missouri and portions of Kansas.
