QR codes helping patients navigate Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center

Pomona (Calif.) Valley Hospital Medical Center is using wayfinding technology to help patients, staff and visitors find their way around the hospital.

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center will use Eyedog.US's technology to provide indoor navigation to patients and visitors via smartphone, according to an April 19 press release. Patients, visitors and staff can scan QR codes with their phone's camera to access the Eyedog technology.

"Navigating a large hospital like PVHMC can be confusing and stressful for patients and visitors who may already be feeling anxious about their visit," said Kent Hoyos, vice president of information services and CIO at PVHMC. "The Eyedog.US platform is an invaluable tool that allows us to offer users a mobile-accessible, step-by-step visual journey to their destination, ultimately reducing anxiety and improving the overall patient and visitor experience at our hospital."

The technology went live at the hospital April 4.

Aurora, Colo.-based UC Health launched a similar technology March 3. Its digital app aims to be like Google Maps, helping patients get to appointments and visitors find patients being treated at the hospital.
