Corewell Health brings together 100s of MyChart versions

Corewell Health is uniting hundreds of instances of MyChart's patient portal to give patients a more streamlined experience, Moody on the Market reported.

The $15.2 billion health system, with dual headquarters in Grand Rapids and Southfield, Mich., has been merging its digital patient records and standardizing to an Epic EHR after forming via the 2022 merger of Spectrum Health and Beaumont Health. Corewell Health has so far consolidated nearly 400 instances to about 190, according to the May 29 story.

"We're going to combine those MyCharts, in time, to make that experience more simple when we've done this across 22 hospitals and 300 outpatient sites across the state of Michigan," Corewell Health South President Loren Hamel, MD, told the Michigan business publication. "Also when we make an improvement anywhere, we can make it everywhere. We're not having to do those one-offs each time with each hospital. So, I think you're going to see enhancements [and] much, much faster [systems] in the future."

Some patients have had to re-enter information or had delayed lab results in MyChart as a result of this change, but those disruptions are temporary, according to the story.
