HHS to expand its data science talent pool

HHS is launching the pilot edition of CoLab, an eight-week-long data science training program for its employees to explore data-driven initiatives, reports FedScoop.

The first edition of CoLab will take 25 HHS employees with varying skillsets and teach them how to better work with data. Projects will focus on web apps, models and dashboards that will enable decision-making, insights and automation. Some tools will be for internal use while other may be public-facing.

"There are plenty of people who can talk at a high level about the importance of data," Will Yang, director and co-founder of CoLab, told FedScoop. "We'd like to help people get closer to the nitty gritty and learn while solving their own, important challenges."

CoLab is supported by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, the Office of Business Management and Transformation, the Office of the CTO and the IDEA Lab.
