Boston Strategic Partners, a life sciences and healthcare consulting firm, plans to analyze clinical and administrative EHR data from nearly 60 million patients across more than 600 U.S. hospitals and health systems to research pneumonia hospitalizations.
Using health economics and outcomes research, as well as big data techniques, the firm will investigate characteristics related to pneumonia patients, medication management, costs and laboratory testing.
BSP estimates hospitalizations for severe infections comprise nearly $212 billion in annual spending. Specifically, pneumonia accounts for an estimated 12 percent of all hospital stays and costs about $15,500 per occurrence.
