Report: 6 types of ransomware to know

There are six major ransomware threats hitting businesses this year, according to a Symantec report.

The report, titled "Internet Security Threat Report: Ransomware 2017," details an analysis of ransomware trends detected thus far in 2017.

Here are the six types of ransomware followed by the most recently observed ransom demand. The majority of these ransomware variants were distributed through spam campaigns.

1. Cerber (discovered March 2016): 0.5 bitcoin, or $2,000

2. Jaff (discovered May 2017): 0.356 bitcoin, or $1,467

3. Sage (discovered September 2016): $2,000 in bitcoin

4. GlobeImposter (discovered May 2017): 0.35 bitcoin, or $1,401

5. Locky (discovered February 2016): 0.49 bitcoin, or $1,963

6. Mamba (discovered September 2016): Variable
