Ransomware attack affects trauma, stroke care at New York hospital

A ransomware attack has caused some care and IT network disruptions at Staten Island, N.Y.-based Richmond University Medical Center, SILive reported May 11.

The affected services were overnight trauma and stroke care, a spokesperson for the 470-bed hospital told the news outlet. An employee said staff members have had to enter data manually while nurses have had to individually monitor patients since the outages began May 5.

"Our investigation into this incident and any potential impact to hospital information is ongoing," the spokesperson told SILive. "We are working alongside third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate and restore full functionality to our systems."
