Providence bounces back from Change Healthcare outage

Renton, Wash.-based Providence has resumed normal operations after the Feb. 21 Change Healthcare cyberattack.

The health system wrote in a March 4 post on its site that "Providence has resumed normal operations following a nationwide pharmacy service disruption caused by a cyberattack on Change Healthcare."

Providence said its healthcare providers are currently utilizing electronic prescriptions via Epic and have phased out the use of paper scripts.

The health system said dispensing and retail pharmacies using Change Healthcare for claims processing are still encountering ongoing challenges with real-time pharmacy billing. This has caused Providence pharmacies to activate contingency plans to ensure secure and prompt access to medications for its patients, according to the site.
