Oklahoma City-based OU Health has revealed patient data may have been compromised after an employee laptop was stolen.
While the laptop was stolen Dec. 26, it wasn't until after an extensive investigation involving law enforcement and outside cybersecurity experts that the potential breach was confirmed Jan. 17. OU Health said it has not been able to confirm the stolen laptop was not compromised.
Potentially exposed information includes names, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, Social Security numbers, medical records numbers, diagnosis and treatment information, and health insurance numbers.
The health system alerted patients whose information was potentially involved March 17 via U.S. mail, according to the release.
OU Health has set up a toll-free number (877-506-0181) for any patients concerned about the potential data breach.
