New York hospitals report cyberattack

Two New York hospitals reported a cyberattack on Aug. 31 that disrupted operations, according to a report from 7 News.

The FBI, New York State Department of Health and Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services are working with Carthage (N.Y.) Area Hospital and Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg to restore IT systems after the attack.

Outpatient appointments at both hospitals and North Country Orthopaedic Group are being rescheduled. Emergency rooms at both hospitals were put on diversion after the attack.

The hospitals believe patient and employee information was not compromised during the attack, and as of Sept. 1, the hospitals hadn't received a ransom demand, according to a separate 7 News report.

Several hospitals and health systems have reported cyberattacks in recent weeks, including Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System and Singing River Health System in Ocean Springs, Miss.
