New Hampshire health system hit with ransomware

A New Hampshire-based health system recently fell victim to a ransomware attack, databreaches.net reported July 29.

Salem, N.H.-based Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network said it discovered May 22 that an unauthorized party had access to its network between May 13 and May 22, and that some files or folders "were or may have been" stolen, according to a notice on its website. The data may have included names, contact information, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license and ID numbers, financial account information, diagnoses, treatments and health insurance information.

Hacking group Hunters International posted on its data leak site July 18 claiming to have taken more than 410 gigabytes of data from the health system containing more than 352,000 files, according to databreaches.net. The file tree showed folders labeled Admissions, Clinical, Hospitality, HumanResource, and Pediatrics.

Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network includes four acute rehab hospitals and 20 outpatient centers. Becker's reached out to the organization for comment.
