Cybersecurity company McAfee Labs recorded a 10 percent surge in malware volume during the third quarter of 2017, detecting nearly 57.6 million samples, according to a Dec. 18 report.
McAfee Labs assesses the cyber threat landscape each quarter by reviewing data gathered by the McAfee Global Threat Intelligence cloud. The cloud monitors hundreds of millions of sensors spanning multiple threat vectors around the world.
Here are three report insights.
1. In the third quarter of 2017, McAfee counted 263 publicly disclosed security incidents, down 15 percent from one quarter prior.
2. Healthcare was the No. 1 victim of publicly disclosed breaches in the third quarter, accounting for nearly 70 percent of all incidents.
3. McAfee global threat intelligence protections against malicious files increased from 36 million per day to 40 million per day.
