IT workers at an Idaho hospital worked all night on a recent Sunday night to thwart a cyberattack, the Rexburg Standard Journal reported.
Rexburg-based Madison Memorial Hospital had to switch to patient records during the cybersecurity incident, but the IT department stopped the hackers from accessing patient data, according to the Nov. 7 story.
"The information systems we have in place acted quickly," Doug McBride, executive director of business development, told the newspaper. "They were able to basically isolate that situation, shut down the servers. We were able to contain all their efforts, which was really, really good for us. They didn't breach any of our patient information, our financial information or any of our electronic medical records."
The hackers were traced to Italy, according to the story. The hospital didn't tell patients about the cyberattack, and they didn't notice any difference in their care. Madison Memorial switched to downtime procedures while it restored its computer systems.
"We're gradually bringing them back up and clearing them of any malicious information," Mr. McBride told the news outlet.
