In September, the healthcare industry saw a notable surge in ransomware incidents, with 18 attacks occurring, representing an 86% month-over-month rise compared to August, a Oct. 24 report from NCC Group found.
This rise, according to the report shared with Becker's, aligns with patterns observed in preceding months in 2023, indicating that the decline in ransomware attacks on healthcare in August was an exception within the broader trend.
The report said that the healthcare sector continues to remain an appealing target for hackers due to the significant financial repercussions a ransomware attack can impose.
