DDoS attacks in healthcare are increasing with healthcare organizations suffering between 40 to 60 attacks daily in February, according to a March 17 blog post from Microsoft.
Microsoft analyzed the DDoS attack landscape against healthcare applications hosted in Azure over a course of three months and found the following:
- In November healthcare organizations suffered 10 to 20 attacks daily, but that number has since increased to 40 to 60 attacks daily.
- Thirty-one percent of pharma and life sciences organizations were attacked by DDoS attacks.
- Twenty-six percent of hospitals were hit with DDoS attacks and 16 percent of healthcare insurance companies were targeted.
- The attacks are primarily targeting web applications.
