Hackers offer 'Black Friday' discounts for stolen credit card information

Hackers are reportedly selling stolen credit card details with Black Friday discounts on the dark web, according to The Telegraph.

Here are five things to know:

1. Security company RepKnight told the publication hackers were offering a 25 percent "Black Friday discount" on stolen credit cards, according to a forum on the dark web.

2. These hackers shared information about the Black Friday discounts with other cyber criminals on online groups related to "carding." Carding describes a technique hackers use to steal credit cards by infecting online stores with malware to launder money to themselves.

3. Hackers often use the stolen credit cards to purchase luxury items, such as new iPhones or laptops, and sell them to anonymous buyers before the victim can cancel their card, according to The Telegraph.

4. The FBI warns consumers to ensure websites they use for online shopping are "secure and reputable before providing your credit card number and personal information."

5. Shoppers should also be wary about other scams, such as email phishing attacks, during the shopping season after Thanksgiving. In 2017, online fraud attempts rose 22 percent between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve, and between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, malware infections spiked 123 percent, according to CNBC.
