Guthrie Lourdes Hospital affected by Ascension cyberattack

Binghamton, N.Y.-based Guthrie Lourdes Hospital has also been impacted by the ransomware attack on St. Louis-based Ascension as the healthcare organization used to be a part of the organization.

Ascension disclosed that it fell victim to a ransomware attack on May 8. Although Guthrie Lourdes Hospital officially transitioned to the Guthrie health system in February, the integration process is still underway. Consequently, when Ascension faced the attack, Guthrie Lourdes Hospital was also impacted.

"We pivoted quickly, and out of an abundance of caution, postponed some elective surgeries to give us time to ensure that we could move forward with those procedures safely," Kathy Connerton, president of Guthrie Lourdes Hospital said in a video statement May 10.

In a May 13 update on Guthrie Lourdes Hospital website, the hospital said that although its pharmacies remain operational, they are currently unable to fill prescriptions. Patients are being advised to contact their physicians to arrange for either a paper prescription or for their medications to be transferred to another pharmacy.

Meanwhile, Guthrie Lourdes Hospital's emergency department remains open and is accepting walk-in patients.
