Hackers recently infiltrated Fort Myers-based Florida Heart Associates' IT systems, exposing 45,148 patients' information, according to a July 13 WBBH report.
The medical practice discovered unusual activity on its IT network on or around May 19, Florida Heart Associates CEO Todd Rauchenberger told WBBH.
After working with law enforcement to launch an investigation, the medical practice found that hackers gained access to its network between May 9 and May 19. Florida Heart Associates reported the breach to HHS on July 7 as affecting 45,148 individuals.
Patient information exposed by the breach included Social Security numbers, birthdates and health insurance details, according to the report.
