Change Healthcare launched a new cloud security service July 17 as part of its value-based care analytics suite HealthQx.
HealthQx, which runs on Microsoft's cloud-computing service Azure, helps providers and payers collect and analyze claims data to inform value-based care payment programs.
In the past, Change Healthcare was tasked with establishing cloud encryption keys to help providers and payers secure their data and systems on HealthQx. However, with the new Change Healthcare Security Management suite, healthcare organizations can now create, update and revoke encryption keys on demand, such as when an organization detects an active treat to data held in the cloud.
The "bring your own key," or BYOK, service also enables customers to invoke a "kill switch" to stop access to protected data and systems after detecting an active threat. The goal of the service is to provide customers with control over their own cybersecurity profile without involving Change Healthcare personnel, according to the company's July 17 statement.
"Hospitals, payers and providers are under constant attack from a global network of cybercriminals," Haddon Bennett, chief information security officer at Change Healthcare, said in the statement. "It is of paramount importance that sensitive data be protected by proper encryption that is fully controlled by the payer or provider, so they can mitigate both insider and external threats on their own terms."
