Cerebral facing lawsuit for using pixel tracking technology on its website, app

Telehealth company Cerebral is facing a lawsuit that accuses the company of installing tracking technologies on its website and app that led to the protected health information of more than 3 million patients to be sent to social media companies.

On March 23, a plaintiff filed a lawsuit in a California federal court alleging the tracking technology Cerebral used sent patients' health information to Meta Platforms and Google without consent.

The plaintiff alleges that the disclosure violated state and federal privacy laws as patient information such as names, Social Security numbers, lab results, referrals and emotional characteristics were allegedly sent to third parties.

Cerebral confirmed to Becker's in March that it did use tracking technology on its website and app, but that it has since removed it.

This comes as 14 other hospitals and health systems around the country face lawsuits alleging use of these tracking technologies on their websites.
