Ballad Health fires employee who accessed patients' records without permission

Kingsport, Tenn.-based Ballad Health fired an employee for accessing patients' health information without a medically-necessary reason to do so, according to a WJHL report.

The former employee viewed patients' demographic and clinical information — including names, addresses, dates of birth and phone numbers — but not their Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers or financial account information, Ballad told the news outlet.

Ballad notified affected individuals about the breach and terminated the employee. The hospital doesn't believe the former employee improperly used or disclosed the patients' information.
