Arkansas hospital settles data breach lawsuit for $295K

Conway (Ark.) Regional Medical Center will pay $295,000 to settle a lawsuit regarding a June 26, 2019, data breach in which patient information was compromised due to a phishing attack, Top Class Actions reported Dec. 7.

In the lawsuit, patients alleged the health system failed to protect their personal information from hackers. Although the health system did not admit any wrongdoing, it has agreed to give class action members the following:

  • Up to $850 to class members who reported economic losses as a result of the data breach.

  • Up to $40 for time lost dealing with the data breach.

  • Up to two years of free identity-protection services.

Class action members have up until Dec. 21 to object to the settlement, and up to Feb. 20 to submit claims for reimbursement and to enroll in identity-theft protection.
