The majority of Americans — 79 percent — believe businesses are more focused on profits than addressing security needs, according to an IBM survey.
For the survey, IBM tapped The Harris Poll to poll almost 10,000 consumers worldwide, including 2,126 respondents from the U.S., about their concerns related to data privacy and security.
Here are four survey insights into how U.S. consumers perceive their cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
1. Eighty-two percent of respondents said cybersecurity worries them more today than it did five years ago.
2. Sixty-eight percent of respondents reported worrying about being hacked within the next five years.
3. Sixty-three percent of respondents indicated they were more concerned about cybersecurity than a potential war during the next year.
4. Sixty-seven percent of respondents agreed with the statement, "The bad guys are winning over the good guys in the cybersecurity war."
