Internet-connected medical devices that feed patient data into EHRs are expected to explode in use in the coming years, presenting a cybersecurity challenge to hospitals and health systems.
These devices carry the greatest risks, according to an analysis by cybersecurity firm Armis published April 17.
Riskiest connected medical devices:
1. Nurse call systems: 39 percent have critical severity unpatched common vulnerabilities and exposures (while 48 percent have unpatched vulnerabilities of any severity).
2. Infusion pumps: 27 percent critical severity (30 percent of any severity).
3. Medication dispensing systems: 4 percent critical severity (86 percent of any severity).
Riskiest Internet of Things devices:
1. Internet Protocol cameras: 56 percent critical severity (59 percent of any severity).
2. Printers: 37 percent critical severity (30 percent of any severity).
3. Voice over Internet Protocol devices: 2 percent critical severity (53 percent of any severity).
