While the rise of cyberattacks has put pressure on healthcare organizations to ramp up security measures, there is still a large gap in the cybersecurity workforce.

In the 2019 Cybersecurity Workforce Study, which was conducted by (ISC)2 and released in November, analysts collected data in June and July of 2019 from 3,237 individuals who are experts in cybersecurity.

Here are five things to know on the cybersecurity workforce:

1. In the U.S., there are an estimated 805,000 cybersecurity professionals working.

2. The cybersecurity workforce gap is estimated at nearly 500,000 workers. To meet the growing demand of cybersecurity talent, the U.S. cybersecurity workforce needs to grow by 62 percent.

3. Overall, 65 percent of organizations reportedly have a shortage of staff dedicated to cybersecurity.

4. Fifty-one percent of respondents said their organizations are at a moderate or extreme risk of attack due to the lack of cybersecurity talent.

5. One of the top concerns for cybersecurity professionals is the lack of standard terminology for effective communication along with lack of work-life balance and lack of resources to conduct the job effectively.
