30% of clinicians receive daily texts with PHI, survey finds

Ninety-six percent of hospitals are budgeting for or investing in comprehensive clinical communication platforms to deploy before the end of 2018, according to a Black Book survey.

For the survey, Black Book asked 770 end users from hospitals and 1,279 end users from physician practices about their facilities' adoption of secure communication platforms.

Here are four survey insights:

1. Ninety-four percent of physicians and 90 percent of hospital leaders agreed effective use of mobile technology would improve patient safety and outcomes.

2. Eighty-five percent of hospitals and 83 percent of physician practices plan to deploy secure communication platforms to coordinate between care teams, patients and families.

3. However, 63 percent of respondents indicated ongoing challenges with clinician buy-in surrounding general mobile adoption strategies.

4. Thirty percent of respondents reported they receive unsecured text communications daily that include individually identifiable information, such as patient birthdays, initials or names.
