Hospitals and health systems around the country have been accused of sharing confidential patient information with social media giants such as Meta, Facebook and Google. Here are the three hospitals and health systems that disclosed that its tracking technologies led to protected health information of patients to be compromised:
- NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital disclosed that its website used analytics tracking technology that resulted in the personal health information of 54,396 patients to be disclosed to its third-party technology service providers.
- Indianapolis-based Community Health Network notified patients that some of their protected health information may have been sent to Meta and Google due to the health systems use of third-party tracking technologies on its website and MyChart patient portal.
- Advocate Aurora Health, dually headquartered in Downers Grove, Ill., and Milwaukee, said it installed "pixels" on its website that may have breached the medical data of as many as 3 million patients.
