Medical device and software developer Zoll is notifying 277,319 patients of a security incident that put their personal and medical information at risk.
Zoll archives its emails through a third-party service. The email vendor alerted Zoll that during a server migration, data from the company’s emails was exposed.
Information was exposed between Nov. 8 and Dec. 28, 2018. Zoll said it is not aware of any misuse of the information. The third-party vendor said that information has since been secured.
Patients’ names, addresses, dates of birth and limited medical information may have been affected, and some Social Security numbers may have also been exposed, Zoll said.
The company said it had conducted an internal review to determine its next steps and was reviewing its management of third-party vendors to prevent more breaches.
