Since the start of the year, nearly 33 million people have been affected by data breaches across the country as of Aug. 5, according to HHS data and cited by Gov Info Security.
Here are the 10 largest healthcare-related data breaches that have been reported so far in 2019:
- Optum360 (on behalf of Quest Diagnostics): 11.5 million
- LabCorp: 10.3 million
- Dominion National: 3 million
- Clinical Pathology Laboratories: 1.7 million
- Inmediata Health Group: 1.6 million
- UW Medicine: 970,000
- CareCentrix: 468,000
- BioReference Laboratories: 426,000
- Bayamon Medical Center: 423,000
- American Esoteric Laboratories: 410,000
Many of the data breaches listed were affected by a larger security incident at vendor American Medical Collection Agency, including Optum360, LabCorp, Clinical Pathology Laboratories, CareCentrix, BioReference Laboratories and American Esoteric Laboratories. The AMCA data breach has affected approximately 26 million patients.
