Richard Waltman, MD, a physician at Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health System, proposed that senior staff, including the CEO, cut their salary by 10 percent to prevent the planned layoff of up to 350 employees, according to a News Tribune report.
Dr. Waltman replied all to a hospital email by MultiCare's President and CEO Diane Cecchettini that announced the layoffs, which were necessitated by increased costs and reduced reimbursements.
Dr. Waltman said more than 200 people responded to his email and were supportive of his proposal to cut high-level staff's pay by 10 percent.
