Last week, University of California Davis Medical Center CEO Ann Madden Rice received a $259,000 raise, and UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi defended the action, saying the cost and time of replacing Ms. Rice would have been far greater than the raise, according to a Sacramento Bee report.
Ms. Katehi said in the report that it would have cost $500,000 to hire an executive search firm, and the search would have taken roughly a year.
Ms. Rice will now make $960,000 per year, and her salary is paid through hospital fees, not state money or student tuition, the report said.
