The University of Alabama at Birmingham and UAB Hospital have increased their employees' hourly minimum wage to $11 per hour, according to The Associated Press.
The current minimum wage is $8.24, and this is the first increase since 2007, officials said. Part-time student workers will maintain their $7.25 an hour wages.
The change will go into effect for the pay period beginning March 20. It will affect more than 1,100 employees.
