NP, PA pay by region

The median total cash compensation paid to physician assistants and nurse practitioners varies by region, according to one survey.

The finding is from an annual advanced practitioner compensation survey from Chicago-based consulting firm SullivanCotter.

The survey is based on information from 816 organizations representing more than 124,000 individual advanced practice providers and more than 3,400 advanced practitioner leaders from across the U.S. Results of the survey were released Nov. 15. 

Here is the median total cash compensation, which is equal to base salaries plus annual incentive awards, for nurse practitioners and physician assistants, by region and in descending order, according to survey data shared with Becker's

Nurse practitioners

West: $152,935

South Central: $126,037

Southeast: $124,575

Great Lakes subregion: $124,203

North Central: $124,125

Physician assistants

West: $149,603

South Central: $128,600

Great Lakes subregion: $128,232

North Central: $128,000

Southeast: $127,991
