Nationwide Children's raises minimum wage to $15

Columbus, Ohio-based Nationwide Children's Hospital is raising its minimum hourly wage to $15, the hospital announced April 3.

Employees will begin to see raises in July, and Nationwide Children's plans to roll out all increases by the end of 2020. About 1,800 employees will see pay increases, while another 2,000 staff members who already make $15 per hour will receive a raise.

"Just as we are committed to the well-being of our community, we are committed to the well-being of our team at Nationwide Children's," CEO Steve Allen, MD, said in a press release. "This decision is aligned with our mission and commitment to attracting the best employees at every level of the organization."

The hospital employs about 12,000 people and its current minimum wage is $10 per hour, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Ohio's minimum hourly wage for companies of National Children's size is $8.55. The state's median wage was $17.79 in 2017, according to the report.
