Carlos Migoya, the incoming CEO of Jackson Health System in Miami, will earn $590,000 a year in base salary plus $107,121 in benefits and $295,000 in potential bonuses, according to a Miami Herald report.
Mr. Migoya's salary was decided by a compensation committee on Thursday. According to the report, the final number is about 10 percent less than the salary of current Jackson CEO Eneida Roldan, who earns around $665,000 a year. Ms. Roldan's predecessor, Marvin O'Quinn, was making $826,967 when he left the health system at the end of 2008.
Mr. Migoya may take the helm at Jackson Health as soon as May 1, depending on the final details of the contract. The compensation committee noted recently that Mr. Migoya could potentially earn up to $975,000.
Some committee board members objected to the $975,000 limit suggested by the committee, saying Jackson Health – which lost $244 million in fiscal year 2009 and $93 million in fiscal year 2010 — is in no position to hand out exorbitant salaries to its leaders. According to the report, the benefits package approved for Mr. Migoya is the county's regular executive package for employees such as county manager.
