Employees at Weslaco, Texas-based Knapp Medical Center recently lined the streets outside the hospital to protest the compensation of CEO Jim Summersett, according to a KGBT report.
In 2009, Mr. Summersett made more than $850,000 in salary, bonuses and other compensation. Bonuses constituted roughly $90,000 of that total, according to the report.
Protestors said many employees have not had bonuses in two years, and ICU nurses recently took a pay cut of 75 cents an hour. They said Knapp Medical Center's board of directors needs to be held accountable, according to the report.
In response, the board said "it remains committed to its fundamental fiduciary responsibility of identifying which future course will assure that [Knapp] Medical Center is best positioned to fulfill its mission of service to the community."
