Data from Equilar show hospital executives are among Tennessee's highest earners, whose average pay increased 24 percent, according to a Tennessean report.
Equilar's analysis compared the overall pay package for top executives in Tennessee's major companies. The overall pay package includes stock and options' value on the day of grants, which ultimately may not be awarded to executives depending on the stocks' performance over time and when the CEO cashes out his or her money, according to the report.
The overall pay package for Tennessee-based healthcare executives last year included:
- $38 million for HCA CEO Richard M. Bracken, an increase of 212 percent
- $21 million for Chairman Wayne T. Smith of Community Health Systems
- $8 million for CEO and Chairman William F. Carpenter III of LifePoint Hospitals
