Blue Shield of California has made its first detailed disclosure on executive pay, which lists compensation for the nonprofit's 10 highest paid executives by name.
Consumer advocates have criticized the insurer's lack of transparency on executive compensation over the years. The issue received more attention after a 2013 audit raised questions about the company's taxpayer subsidy and the justification for it.
In 2014, California revoked Blue Shield of California's tax exemption, which it had enjoyed since its founding in 1939.
The insurer didn't provide information on executive pay until it was required to do so by a 2010 California law. However, that information didn't include names with amounts and didn't provide details about what was included in terms of salary and bonuses, according to Kaiser Health News.
Here are the 10 highest paid executives at Blue Shield of California for 2015.
