The three cancer institutions that were observed include Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Here are the compensation figures of each hospital's top executive.
• Edward Benz Jr., MD, president and CEO of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute: $1.14 million
• Harold Varmus, MD, former president and CEO of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center: $1.34 million

• Ronald DePinho, MD, president of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center: $1.4 million
