CHA CEO Sister Carol Keehan's Compensation Nears $1M

Sister Carol Keehan, president and CEO of the Catholic Health Association of the United States, recorded total compensation of $962,467 in 2010, according to the CHA's 2011 Form 990 (pdf).

However, most of that total was paid to Sister Keehan's "respective religious order," which is the Daughters of Charity. Other than "certain fringe benefits" within Sister Keehan's $131,888 in "other reportable compensation" and $11,597 in non-taxable benefits such as health insurance, the money went to the religious order.

Her 2010 compensation and allocation to Daughters of Charity is similar to past years. In 2009, her compensation totaled $953,394 — 1 percent lower than her 2010 total — and in 2008, Sister Keehan's total compensation was higher than 2010. Her 2008 compensation was $963,436, with most of the money still paid to the Daughters of Charity.

There are more than 600 hospitals affiliated with the CHA, the largest Catholic and non-profit group of healthcare providers in the country.
