Michael Tarwater, CEO of Carolinas HealthCare System in Charlotte, N.C., earned about $4.9 million in total compensation last year, according to a Charlotte Observer report.
That figure, which represents salary, bonuses and other compensation, is about 2.6 percent higher than 2012, when he made just shy of $4.8 million.
The 10 main executives within Carolinas also continued to receive more than $1 million each.
This past September, a local report found Mr. Tarwater took at least 29 personal flights during the past four years on the health system's patient and organ transport planes.
