BLS: Physicians Hold 9 of 10 Highest-Compensated Jobs

Of the 10 highest-paying jobs across all U.S. industries, the top nine are related to physician specialties, according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The BLS provided employment and wage estimates by area and industry for 22 major occupational groups, such as healthcare, and 821 specific occupations based on 2010 data.

The nine-highest paid jobs, by annual mean wages, were:

•    Anesthesiologists: $232,830
•    Surgeons: $230,540
•    Obstetricians and gynecologists: $216,760
•    Oral and maxillofacial surgeons: $216,440
•    General internists: $191,520
•    Orthodontists: $186,320
•    All other physicians and surgeons: $184,820
•    Family and general practitioners: $180,850
•    Psychiatrists: $177,520

Rounding out the top ten list for annual mean wages were company CEOs, who made $176,840. Other healthcare occupations of note were nurse anesthetists, who had a mean salary of $154,390, and physician assistants, who made roughly $92,460.
