State hospital associations are vibrantly active in each U.S. state, but how much do the heads of those associations make?
According to the most recent Form 990s from each organization obtained through GuideStar, a site devoted to publishing non-profit organization information, the average state hospital association president and CEO earned roughly $640,000 in total compensation in 2010 or 2011.
Of the 50 state hospital association CEOs, five made more than $1 million: Craig Becker of the Tennessee Hospital Association, C. Duane Duaner of the California Hospital Association, Spencer Johnson of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association, Kenneth Raske of the Greater New York Hospital Association and Carolyn Scanlan, formerly of the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania. Mr. Raske had the highest compensation package at $1.62 million in 2010.
