The following 10 specialties experienced the greatest rate of increase in median compensation from 2015 to 2016, according to SullivanCotter's data. Specialties are ranked in descending order based on rate of increase.
- Radiology (Radiation Oncology) — 8.75 percent increase ($513,042 median compensation in 2016)
- Pulmonology (General) — 8.51 percent increase ($341,253)
- Pediatrics (General) — 4.82 percent increase ($241,417)
- Anesthesiology — 4.69 percent increase ($425,000)
- Neurology — 4.63 percent increase ($282,494)
- Oncology (Hematology and Oncology) — 4.39 percent increase ($402,904)
- Emergency Medicine — 3.95 percent increase ($335,000)
- Rheumatology — 3.88 percent increase ($249,725)
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation — 3.25 percent increase ($266,657)
- Radiology (Diagnostic) — 3.03 percent increase ($490,132)
