Earlier this summer, the Washington State Department of Health began posting compensation data of the highest-compensated nonprofit hospital employees. Hospital executives at for-profit hospitals are not included, under state law.
The Department of Health posted hospital executive compensation reports for the 2012 fiscal year, which varies from hospital to hospital. Here are the 10 highest-paid hospital and health system CEOs, presidents and executive administrators in Washington, according to the Department of Health's latest figures. Note: Compensation figures include base salary, bonuses, incentives, deferred compensation and other reportable compensation.

2. Gary Kaplan, MD, Virginia Mason Medical Center (Seattle): $3.74 million
3. Rod Hochman, MD, Providence Health & Services (Renton): $1.77 million
4. John Evans Jr., retired, Central Washington Hospital (Wenatchee): $1.77 million
5. Diane Cecchettini, RN, MultiCare Health System (Tacoma): $1.39 million
6. Scott Armstrong, Group Health Cooperative (Seattle): $1.34 million
