For the second time, President Barack Obama has nominated Marilyn Tavenner to lead CMS, according to a report from The Hill.
Ms. Tavenner has been acting as CMS administrator since her previous nomination in December 2011, following the resignation of Donald M. Berwick, MD.
"Any nominee for any healthcare post" in President Obama's administration is a contentious one for the deeply divided Senate, according to the report, as the individual will oversee most of the implementation of the president's healthcare law. The Senate hasn't voted on a CMS nominee since Mark McClellan quit under George W. Bush's second term in fall 2006.
