The Health Resources and Services Administration has delayed the compliance date for a rule prohibiting certain hospitals participating in the 340B drug discount pricing program from purchasing outpatient drugs through group purchasing organizations, according to an AHA News Now report.
The rule, affecting disproportionate share hospitals, children's hospitals and free-standing cancer hospitals, has a new compliance date of August 7, 2013 (originally April 7, 2013). No extensions will be granted beyond August 7.
A delay had been requested by the AHA and 340B hospital members, to allow for more time to work with vendors and update inventory management systems.
