Elective surgeries at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Mass., have been on pause since Nov. 6 amid problems with the equipment used to sterilize medical instruments and devices, according to a Nov. 13 report from The Boston Globe.
The hospital, part of Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham, has rescheduled an undisclosed number of procedures since last week. Surgeries that use equipment and devices sterilized off-site have not been affected, a spokesperson told the news outlet.
It's unclear when the equipment will be back up and running, though the spokesperson said the hospital is working quickly to resume normal operations and that it is coordinating with other local facilities to ensure capacity for emergency patients.
"All patients with upcoming impacted procedures are being notified and will be rescheduled once our system has returned to service," a spokesperson said.
